Rhema University holds Second Inaugural Lecture
It was all back-patting and laughter yesterday as Rhema University Nigeria held its second inaugural lecture delivered by Professor of Finance, Udochukwu Godfrey Ogbonna.
Welcoming the hugely attended event, Rhema University Vice Chancellor, Professor Ogbonnaya Onwudike noted that inaugural lectures all over the world provides a platform for academics who having become professors in their chosen field to publicly announce their academic achievements.
In his lecture titled: infrastructural development and improved internally generated revenue: the buddy-buddy companion, Professor Ogbonna noted that there is a relationship between a nation's internally generated revenue and the rate of infrastructural development because both serve the interest of the other in the development of any society.
Professor Ogbonna stressed on the need for citizens to pay their taxes and not always give excuses for not paying taxes adding that there would be no justification for them to make demands on government for the provision of infrastructure if they refuse to pay their taxes.
He noted that since money answers all things, the money are the taxes we pay, while the things are the infrastructure that make life enjoyable.
Having proven himself worthy of his professorial seat, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ogbonnaya Onwudike announced that Professor Udochukwu Ogbonna would now be addressed as distinguished Professor of Finance.
Professor Onwudike noted that until a professor delivers an inaugural lecture, his professorship has a "k-leg", which explains why inaugural lectures all over the world are regarded as an important academic exercise.
Present at the event was the Chancellor, Rhema University Nigeria and President, Living Word Ministries, Brother Emma Okorie, the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, Abia State Finance Commissioner, Mazi Mike Akpara, former Abia State deputy governor, Rt. Honourable (Sir) Ude Ukochukwu, the Clerk, Abia State House of Assembly, Honourable (Barrister) John-Pedro Irokansi, the ICAN President, Chief D.C.S Alaribe, members of the academia, and traditional rulers.
There was also a large turn out Afarukwu Ibeku indigenes of Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, as well as friends and well-wishers from across Nigeria.
