In her quest to continually equip humanity for excellence, Rhema University, Nigeria offer postgraduate programmes/courses to applicants seeking admission into full-time postgraduate studies in various disciplines. The available higher degrees and postgraduate diploma programmes offered by Rhema University come under the following colleges:
College of Basic and Applied Sciences
The College of Basic and Applied Sciences offers PGD, M.Sc., and PhD degree programmes in Microbiology under the aegis of the Department of Biological Sciences with specialization in Food and Industrial Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology and Medical and Pathogenic Microbiology.
The Department of Chemical Sciences offers PGD, M.Sc. and PhD degree programmes in Chemistry and Biochemistry while the Department of Physical Sciences offers PGD, M.Sc. and PhD degree programmes in Computer Science.
College Of Management and Social Sciences
The College of Management and Social Sciences offers PGD, M.Sc., and PhD degree programmes in Accounting and Banking and Finance, as well as PGD, M.Sc. and PhD programmes in Economics and Political Science/Public Administration. The Department of Mass Communication also offers a PGD programme in Mass Communication.
Entry Requirements for Postgraduate Studies
Postgraduate Diploma Programmes (PGD)
The criteria for admission into PGD programmes are as follows:
- Applicants must have five credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant subjects at O’ Level in not more than two sittings.
- Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree from an approved university with a minimum of 3rd Class degree in the relevant discipline.
- Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant programme from approved institutions with a minimum of Upper Credit may also be considered for admission.
- For unclassified HND Certificates, a CGPA OF 3.50 (5-point scale) and 3.00 (4-point scale) or 60% shall be taken as the equivalent of upper credit.
- Applicants must have five credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant subjects at O’ Level in not more than two sittings.
Master’s Degree Programmes (M.Sc.)
The criteria for admission into M.Sc. programmes are as follows:
- An applicant with a first degree from a recognised university with a minimum of 2nd Class lower division (CGPA) of not less than 3.00/5.00), provided the University Matriculation requirement is satisfied.
- An applicant with a good postgraduate diploma from a recognised university provided the University Matriculation requirement is satisfied.
- Any other certificate or qualification that may be acceptable to the Senate
Doctor of Philosophy Programmes (PhD)
Applicants for admission into our PhD programmes must meet the following criteria:
- An applicant with a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline with an overall performance of not less than 60% from a recognised university provided the University Matriculation is satisfied.
- An applicant with an M.Phil. degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university
- An applicant with a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline with an overall performance of not less than 60% from a recognised university provided the University Matriculation is satisfied.
Concept Note
As part of the application, applicants are required to submit a Concept Note of not more than two (2) pages for PhD programmes and one (1) page for Master’s programmes. The Concept Note, a mini-summary of the Research Proposal highlighting the applicant’s intended area of research interest when admitted, would be typewritten in the space provided in the Application Form.
The Concept Note should cover the following:
- A brief theoretical background
- Statement of the Problem
- Relevance of the Study to self and the society
- Objective (s) of the Study
- Justification
- Methodology
Transcripts/Referee’s Forms
Applicants are required to download the Transcript Request/Referees Report Forms from the university’s portal for transmission to their former universities/institutions. These should be forwarded to:

Requisite Documents to Accompany Postgraduate Applications
- NYSC Certificate (Discharge, Exemption, or Exclusion Certificate).
- Three copies of the completed application summary form available online should be downloaded and printed.
- Credentials and documents of entry qualifications.
- Concept Note (for Master’s and PhD Programmes).
- NYSC Certificate (Discharge, Exemption, or Exclusion Certificate).
Duration of Programmes
Postgraduate Diploma Programmes
Postgraduate Diploma Programmes shall run for a minimum of two semesters and a maximum of four semesters.
Master’s Degree Programmes
Master’s degree programmes shall run for a minimum of three semesters and a maximum of five semesters.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programmes
PhD programmes shall run for a minimum of six semesters and a maximum of eight semesters.
Method of Application
Application forms can be obtained online on payment of a non-refundable fee of #20,000.00 (Twenty Thousand Naira Only) made payable to the Rhema University school fees account. Account details are as follows:

Applicants should log in to: http://portal.rhemauniversity.edu.ng – click on postgraduate applications, and follow the instructions. A handbook on postgraduate studies is also available online. However, the hardcopy can also be obtained at the office of the secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies, Rhema University, Nigeria on the payment of #5,000.00 (Five Thousand Naira) only at the above bank, and presentation of evidence of payment.
Submission of Application Forms
Most of the requisite information would be completed online. However, a copy of the completed online application form should be downloaded and printed. The printed application form with all relevant documents as listed should be posted or delivered to:
